Increasing employment-related skills for African Nova Scotians
Skills Up! is a program that offers financial assistance to help African Nova Scotians get the
training they need for good jobs and directly supports jobsHere, the plan to grow our economy.
Who can apply?
You may be eligible for this program if you:
• Are African Nova Scotian
• Have been out of school for at least a year
• Are not receiving Employment Insurance and
• Are having problems finding work because you are missing some skills.
Applicants can be unemployed, or can be employed but have less than a high school diploma
or without the skills to find a good job.
What types of training is covered?
Courses that train you for a specific job, such as those offered by the community colleges, or
general upgrading offered by the School of Adult Learning are included in the training eligible
for this program.
What costs are covered?
Depending on eligibility, the program may be able to provide support with:
• Tuition;
• Living allowance;
• Transportation; and
• Other costs associated with your training.
